What is Misoprost (Misoprostol) used for? Misoprost (Misoprostol) is a prostaglandin analogue used to treat gastro-instestinal ulcers. Gastro-instestinal ulcers can often occur in people taking NSAIDs (Non-Steroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drugs). Misoprost must not be taken by pregnant women as it can cause abortion, premature birth, birth defects or uterine rupture. Misoprost is also used to reduce the risk of NSAID-induced gastric ulcers, particularly in cases where the patient is at risk of complications. It should be taken for the duration of NSAID treatment. How should I use Misoprost (Misoprostol)? The recommended dose of Misoprost (Misoprostol) for reducing risk of gastro-intestinal ulcers is 200mcg 4 times a day. If this is not well-tolerated the dosage can be reduced to 100mcg 4 times a day. What are the side effects of Misoprost (Misoprostol)?
Symptoms of overdose:
Please Note Misoprost (Misoprostol) taken by pregnant women can cause serious problems. It can cause abortion, premature birth or birth defects. Misoprost should also NOT be taken in women of child-bearing age to treat ulcers unless specifically advised by your doctor.
