Losec (Omeprazole Magnesium) Tweet
How does Losec (Omeprazole Magnesium) work: Losec (Omeprazole Magnesium) is used to treat various stomach or esophagus problems related to excess stomach acid. Losec (Omeprazole Magnesium) turns off some of the millions of the "acid pumps" that are inside the lining of your stomach. When Losec turns off "acid pumps", they cannot produce as much stomach acid. Once stomach acid is under control, there is less acid to "back up" into the esophagus. And in many patients, heartburn and other GERD symptoms are relieved. Dosage & Administration: Losec (Omeprazole Magnesium) works best if taken before a meal. Antacids may be taken with Losec. The capsules are sustained-release and must be swallowed whole. Do not crush or chew them or the long action may be destroyed and the chance of side effects increased. Side Effects:
Precautions: Before taking Losec (Omeprazole Magnesium), tell your physician if you have liver or kidney disease, or any drug allergies. Losec should be used only when clearly needed during pregnancy. Discuss the risks and benefits with your physician. It is not known if Losec is excreted into breast milk. Because of the potential for adverse effects for the infant, breast-feeding is not recommended while taking Losec. Discuss the risks and benefits with your physician before breast-feeding. The elderly may be especially sensitive to Losec.
