What is Eukroma (Hydroquinone) used for?

Eukroma (Hydroquinone) is a skin-bleaching agent that is used to lighten areas of darkened skin such as freckles, chloasma (also known as melasma), age spots, and acne scars. Eukroma (Hydroquinone) works by decreasing the production and increasing the breakdown of melanosomes (melanin pigment granules) in the skin's pigment cells (melanocytes). It does this by inhibiting the activity of tyrosinase, the enzyme needed to make melanin.

How should I use Eukroma (Hydroquinone)?

Apply the medication to clean, dry skin. Apply just enough medication to cover the affected area. Avoid applying to the unaffected surrounding skin. Rub in the medication gently and completely. Avoid getting this medication on your lips or inside your nose or mouth. Hydroquinone may cause numbness of these areas. If the medication does get on any of these areas, rinse with water.

What are the side effects of Eukroma (Hydroquinone)?

  • hives
  • difficulty breathing
  • swelling of your face, lips, tongue or throat
  • burning
  • stinging
  • skin irritation
  • itching
  • redness

Please Note

Do not use benzoyl peroxide, hydrogen peroxide, or other peroxide products when using Eukroma (Hydroquinone). A temporary dark staining of the skin may occur. If accidentally used together, wash the skin with soap and water to remove the staining. Eukroma creams may contain sodium metabisulphite that may cause serious allergic reactions (including anaphylaxis) in certain susceptible people. Eukroma should not be used in pregnancy or when breastfeeding.
