How does Advantan Ointment (Methylprednisolone Aceponate) work: Advantan Ointment contains the active ingredient, Methylprednisolone, which belongs to the group of medicines called corticosteroids. The corticosteroid is suitable to put on the skin. It is therefore called a topical corticosteroid. Advantan Ointment suppresses inflammatory and allergic skin reactions and thus relaxes symptoms like erythema, thickening of the skin, coarseness of the skin surface, edema, itchiness, burning sensation or pain. Advantan Ointment is used to treat endogenous eczema, neurodermatitis, eczema in children, contact eczema, or degenerative, dyshidrotic, or vulgar eczema. Dosage & Administration: Advantan Ointment should be used only as prescribed by physician. Follow carefully all directions given to you by your physician. Apply Advantan thinly to the affected area of skin. Use Advantan once a day to treat the affected skin for eczema and twice a day for psoriasis. Usually, treatment with Advantan is for up to 12 weeks in adults and 4 weeks in children. Excessive application of topical corticosteroids to large areas of the body for prolonged periods of time can increase the risk of side effects. Ask your physician if you are not sure what to do.
