Carproheal (Carprofen) Tweet
How does it work: Carproheal is used for the relief of arthritic symptoms in dogs. It can be used to relief from the pain and inflammation associated with osteoarthritis, hip dysplasia, and other forms of joint deterioration. It is also effective as an antipyretic. It works by selectively inhibiting the production of COX-2. It does not interfere with the activity of COX-1 which has role in synthesis of prostaglandins necessary for normal gastrointestinal and renal function. Dosage & Administration: Take Carproheal as directed by vet. The recommended dose is 2.2mg twice a day, to obtain a total of 4.4mg per day. Carprofen should be divided between morning and evening doses. It is administered 2 hours before surgery when being used to relieve post-operative pain. Side Effects: Although adverse effects appear to be uncommon with carprofen use in dogs, they can occur. They include:
Precautions: Caution with use in animals less than 6 weeks of age, or aged animals. Avoid use in dehydrated, hypovolaemic, or hypotensive patients. Avoid concurrent administration of potentially nephrotoxic drugs.
