Atopex (Cyclosporin) Tweet
How does it work: Atopex is given to dogs to treat dermatitis and help with skin allergies. It is an immunosuppressor medication that can alleviate the symptoms of allergic responses. The active component of this drug is Cyclosporine, which works by specifically targeting the affected cells to suppress their reactions which as a result should lesson symptoms such as skin lesions and itchy skin. Dosage & Administration: Use only under your vet's instructions as correct dosage will vary from dog to dog depending on the dog's weight, age, medical history, and current health condition. As a guide, you may give your dog this medicine every day for 1-2 months. Once the symptoms have improved, you may reduce this amount to once every 2 - 4 days. The capsule should not be taken within 2 hours before or after a meal. Do not double dose to make up for any missed dosages. Pay close attention to your dog after dosing to ensure they have swallowed the capsule and not spat it back out. Atopex is not suitable for puppies under the age of 6 months. Side Effects: Fortunately, side effects are generally uncommon for most dogs. Notify your vet if you notice any adverse effects after you have given Atopex to your dog. Precautions: When using for the first time you should monitor your dog especially closely for reactions and side effects. Seek you're the advice of a vet before giving Atopex to a pregnant dog, or a mother nursing pups. Always check with your vet if your dog is taking any other medication alongside Atopex.
