Emla (Lignocaine/Prilocaine) Tweet
How does Emla Cream (Lignocaine/Prilocaine) work: Emla Cream (Lignocaine/Prilocaine) is a local anesthetic and numbing medication. Emla Cream works by blocking nerve signals in your body. Emla Cream is used to numb the skin, or surfaces of the penis or vagina, in preparation for a medical procedure or to lessen the pain of inserting a medical instrument such as a tube or speculum.Dosage & Administration: Emla Cream is usually applied 1 to 2 hours before the start of a procedure that requires the treated area to be numb. Follow your physician`s instructions about the length of time the cream should be left on the skin. Store Emla Cream at room temperature away from moisture and heat. Use Emla Cream exactly as directed by your physician. Do not use Emla Cream in larger amounts, or use it for longer than recommended. Your body may absorb more of this medication if you use too much, if you apply it over large skin areas, or if you apply heat, bandages, or plastic wrap to treated skin areas. Skin that is cut or irritated may also absorb more topical medication than healthy skin. Use the smallest amount of medicine needed to numb the skin or relieve pain. Do not use large amounts of Emla Cream, or cover treated skin areas with a bandage or plastic wrap without medical advice. Be aware that many cosmetic procedures are performed without a medical physician present. This medication comes with instructions for safe and effective application. Follow these directions carefully. Ask your physician or pharmacist if you have any questions. Side Effects:
Precautions: Seek emergency medical attention if you have applied too much of Emla Cream. An overdose can cause life-threatening side effects such as uneven heartbeats, seizure, coma, slowed breathing or respiratory failure.
