Clofert induces ovulation by stimulating the release of two hormones which control the development and release of the egg. These hormones are the follicle stimulating hormone (FSH), and the luteinising hormone (LH). This drug is used commonly in cases of polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS). Infrequently clomifene (Clofert) use may cause:
Adult: 50 mg daily for 5 days starting on the 5th day of menstrual cycle or at any time if there is amenorrhoea. If ovulation does not occur, a 2nd course of 100 mg for 5 dats may be used commencing as early as 30 days affer the previous therapy. Further treatment may not be recommended if pregnacy has not occurred after a total of 6 treatment cycles. There is increased chance of multiple pregnancies when conception occurs in relation to clomifene (Clofert) therapy. In those successfully impregnated, there is increased risk of spontaneous abortion and stillbirth.
