What is Nilstat (Nystatin) used for? Nilstat (nystatin) is prescribed to treat a variety of fungal infections, including yeast infections, cutaneous or mucocutaneous mycotic infections, and candida infections such as those caused by candida albicans. It may be prescribed for other uses as determined by your physician. How should I use Nilstat (Nystatin)? Always use Nilstat (nystatin) as prescribed. Do not self-medicate or adjust your dose without first consulting your physician. A common prescription is for 1 capsule, 3 times per day, for a course of medication lasting 5 to 14 days. As with all antibiotics, you should never stop taking it before the end of your prescribed course of medication, even if your infection and its symptoms have disappeared. What are the side effects of Nilstat (Nystatin)? Notify your physician of any side effects you notice while you are taking Nilstat (Nystatin). The most common side effects experienced are nausea and vomiting, tachycardia, urticaria, and bronchospasm. If you suffer an allergic or hypersensitive reaction seek immediate medical care. Symptoms could include difficulty breathing or swallowing, swollen limbs or face, chest tightness, rashes, and hives. Please Note Nilstat (nystatin) is not safe if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. In certain uncommon circumstances where the benefits would outweigh the risks, your physician may prescribe this medication regardless. Do not use this medication if you are allergic to aspirin. Patients sensitive to aspirin are usually also sensitive to another compound called tartrazine, which is an main component of this medication. This medication may not be safe for all patients.
