Generally Minirin Nasal Spray (desmopressin acetate) is used to treat bedwetting (nocturnal enuresis) in patients who have the normal ability to concentrate urine.
It is also used to test if the kidneys have the ability to concentrate urine.

Dosage & Administration Information :

The dose of the drug differs from patient to patient and depends on the ailment. Commonly the starting dosage of Minirin Nasal Spray for adults and children (children over the age of six) commonly is one nose perfusion per nostril at bedtime. It is important not to inhale when using the spray pump. Later the individual dose can be adjusted by your doctor or pharmacist adequate to your reaction to the agent.

Children over the age of 6 years are initially starting with 20 micrograms before bedtime. Most patients will need a treatment period of one to three months. The treatment is then stopped for one week to assess the cure rate. If your pre-treatment urination pattern returns then a further one to three month treatment period may be necessary.

Side Effects :

• Nausea
• Abdominal cramps

Precautions :

For some patients Minirin Nasal Spray is not suitable. People with the following criterias should not take the usage of Minirin Spray into consideration:

• Habits of drinking large amounts of fluid
• Low levels of sodium in the bloodstream
• Allergy to any of the ingredients of the drug
• Renal insufficiency
• Heart disease or any other disease for it is necessary to take fluid tablets
• Disease (SIADH) which causes the release antidiuretic hormones

Beyond that the existence of medical problems may affect the use of Minirin Nasal Spray. Let your physician know before you want to start the application of the drug if:

• Nasal infection or blocked up and / or runny nose.
• Little or too much fluid in the body.
• Allergy to anti-diuretic hormone
• Low blood pressure
• Bladder function problems
• Problems with passing urine.
• Cystic fibrosis or any other disease which are responsible for fluid or salt imbalance
• Heart disease
• Blood vessel disease

Water balance
Very important to take into account is to keep the body water at a constant level. That means do not drink too much, since this may cause certain side effects in the body. One shall only drink a few sips of water or juice one hour before and eight hours after the use of Minirin Nasal Spray.

Pregnancy and Lactation
The Application of Minirin Nasal Spray during pregnancy is only suggested, if the eventual practical effect justifies the potential damage of the fetus. It is further more not recommended to take Minirin Nasal Spray during the lactation period.

Storage
Store Minirin Nasal Spray below 25 °C. Do not freeze. Protect it from light and keep it in its original packaging.
