What is Terazosin (Terazosin) used for?

Terazosin (Terazosin) is an alpha-andrenergic blocker prescribed to treat high blood pressure (hypertension). It operates by relaxing the blood vessels in the body to increase circulation and reduce blood pressure. These effects may also make urination easier by relaxing muscles in the prostate and bladder. This medication may be used along with others to treat related conditions. Your doctor may also prescribe Terazosin for other reasons not listed.

How should I use Terazosin (Terazosin)?

The typical starting dosage of Terazosin (Terazosin) is usually 1mg per day. After observing your response, your doctor may increase your dosage to find your optimal treatment. The tablets should be swallowed whole with a full glass of water and are usually recommended to be taken at night. It may be taken with or without meals, but a snack is recommended if you experience an upset stomach. Never crush, chew, or dissolve the tablets before taking the medication to prevent its effects from becoming altered or destroying the medicine.

Attend all scheduled appointments with your doctor to monitor your progress and make any needed adjustments. Try to take the medication at the same time each day to maximize its effect. Never self-medicate or alter your regiment unless strictly advised by your doctor.

What are the side effects of Terazosin (Terazosin)?

Some side effects may occur while taking Terazosin (Terazosin). These will not occur in all patients and may be intense or mild. Tell your doctor as soon as you experience any of the following to ensure the correct response:

  • Headache
  • Changes in vision (Blurriness or auras)
  • Drowsiness or weakness
  • Dizziness or lightheadedness
  • Stomach discomfort or vomiting
  • Faintness
  • Unusual swelling
  • Changes in heartbeat

Please Note

Strictly use Terazosin (Terazosin) as prescribed and follow all instructions provided by your doctor. Safe, suitable, and optimum dosage can vary and is dependent on the patient's health and medical history, as well as the condition you are treating.

This medication may not be safe or suitable for all patients. Always ensure your doctor is informed if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, using any other type of medication (including non-prescription medicine, vitamins, and supplements), as well as if you have any allergies, other illnesses, or pre-existing medication conditions.

Seek immediate medical attention or proceed to your nearest accident and emergency department if you suffer a hypersensitive or allergic reaction. Symptoms usually present during a reaction of this nature include difficulty breathing or swallowing, swelling of the limbs or face, tight chest, hives, and skin rashes.
