How does Lumigan (Bimatoprost) work:

Lumigan are eye drops contain the active ingredient bimatoprost. They are used to treat glaucoma by lowering the pressure within the eyeball. Further bimatoprost is a highly effective and more over not to forget the only proven method of treating hypotrichosis, short eyelashes occurrence. Lumigan helps this shortcoming by increasing the thickness, length and quantity of the eyelashes. The result: beautiful and long eyelashes.

Lumigan's active agent bimatoprost belongs to the family of prostaglandins.
Prostaglandins are a group of natural body chemicals in the body. They act by opening channels called the trabecular meshwork, which cause the drainage fluid (aqueous humour) from the eye and thus helping the excess eye fluid to drain from the eye more easily. Through reduction of the eye pressure, the eye drops are able to prevent damage to the optic nerve, which is normally created by high eye pressure.

Dosage & Administration:

Use Lumigan eye drops once daily. The dosage is one drop into the affected eye.
The dose of Lumigan eye drops should never be more than one drop daily! Reason is that too much of bimatoprost in the eyes can decrease the intraocular pressure lowering effect. This reduction of the intraocular pressure begins around 3-5 hours after the first usage of Lumigan. Lumigan eye drops are quite compatible with conformable products, which are able to lower intraocular pressure. In case you do want to use more than one topical ophthalmic medication parallel, it is advisable to apply the various items within a five minutes time range.

Administration for the eyelashes:

Administer one drop of Careprost on a disposable brush and start drawing along the upper eyelid lash line. In case a little liquid dripped beyond your upper eyelid, carefully wipe it away with a cotton ball. Bear in mind not to apply Careprost to the lower lash line. Until your favoured lash length is achieved use daily one drop per eye. Generally one will be able to see first results after around eight weeks. Finally the desired length will be visible after 14 to 16 weeks. Continue the administration of Careprost once a week from the time on your wished lash length is achieved. If you want to avoid that your eyelashes relapse to their habitual growth patterns, a weekly treatment will be necessary.

Side Effects:

As specified below there are certain side effects aligned with Lumigan. But you may not experience any of these. In case you do observe any unwished effects, do consult a physician, since some of these side effects need medical assistance.

• Photophobia
• Itching eyelids
• Redness of the eyelids
• Swelling of the eyelids
• Eyes circles
• Increased blood pressure
• Eye-lid- inflammation

• Iris- colour-change
• Dizziness
• Weakness
• Headache
• Loss of strenght
• Disturbed liver function
• Feeling of having something in the eyes
• Inflammation of the lining of the eye(s), causing pain and redness

Possible side effects during the usage of Lumigan for the lashes:

• Dryness
• Visual disturbance
• Eye pain
• Burning sensation
• Foreign body sensation
• Eye rritation
• Eyelash darkening

Precautions:

Lumigan should be used cautious when:

• Moderate to severely decreased liver function
• Glaucoma caused by the growth of new blood vessels over the iris
• Glaucoma caused by inflammation inside the eye
• Glaucoma present from birth
• Inflammatory conditions of the eye
• Closed or blocked retinal vein
• Closed angle glaucoma
• Decreased kidney function
• Eye affecting diabetes
• Disorders of the back of the eye (cornea)
• Airways affecting disease
• Lungs affecting disease
• Persons with no lens in the eye (aphakia)
• Persons with an artificial lens in the eye (pseudophakia)

Further Advice:

The Application of Lumigan during pregnancy and during lactation period is not recommended! Further it is not recommend for children and adolescents under 18 years of age, as in this age-group no test concerning the safety and efficacy where made.
