Victoza (Liraglutide)Manufacturer: Novo Nordisk Ltd. | Active Ingredient: Liraglutide | Origin: Daenemark | Other Name: n/a Victoza (Liraglutide) helps the body to reduce the blood sugar level, when it is too high. It also helps to slow down the gastric passage through your stomach. Dosage & Administration Information: Give the Victoza- injection hypodermic into the abdomen (under the skin), thigh or upper arm. Administer once a day optimally everytime at the same time of the day. Start with a dose of 0.6mg each day at the minimum of one week. After this your doctor will let you know when you can increase the dose to 1.2mg or if necessary to the maximum of 1.8mg. If you forgot to apply a dose of Victoza, use it as soon as possible. In case more than 12 hours passed by since the planned injection, you should not replace the dose. Instead inject the next dose on the following day as scheduled. How does Victoza works: Type 2 diabetes is a disease where the pancreas does not produce enough insulin to be able to control the sugar in the body. The same is valid for the situation when the body is unable to use insulin efficaciously. The active agent liraglutide is an incretin mimetic (certain hormones which are produced in the gut) It acts in the same way as (incretins) by increasing the amount of insulin released in the pancreas in response to food. This helps with the control of blood glucose levels. Therefor ommonly Victoza is indicated for the treatment of adults with type 2 diabetes (non- insulin- dependent diabetes) mellitus. Victoza is used together with: Metformin or a sulphonylurea, in people with insufficient glycaemic control despite maximal tolerated dose of monotherapy with metformin or sulphonylurea. Metformin and a sulphonylurea or metformin and a thiazolidinedione in people with insufficient glycaemic control despite dual therapy. Side Effects: As specified below there are certain side effects aligned with Victoza. Some people may experience those, others will not be effected by any of the following symptoms:
Precautions: It is adviswed not to use Victoza if you know you are fragile for a hypersensitivity against the active agent liraglutide. Further do not use Victoza when you have been attested with type 1 diabetes mellitus or for the treatment of diabetic ketoacidosis.
Thyroid adverse happenings, which include increased blood thyroid neoplasm, calcitonin and goiter have been experienced in patients with pre-existing thyroid disease. There may be an enhanced risk of hypoglycaemia for people who use Victoza and at the same time sulphonylurea. But it is possible to lower this risk of hypoglycaemia through the reduction of the dose of sulphonylurea.
