How does Flixotide Accuhaler (Fluticasone Propionate) work:

Flixotide Accuhaler (Fluticasone Propionate) is a corteosteroid that reduces the swelling of the air passages, making breathing easier. Flixotide Accuhaler is a preventative drug and must be taken regularly to be effective, it cannot be used for acute attacks.

Dosage & Administration:

For adults and children over 16 years of age: The usual dose is in the range of 100 to 1000 micrograms twice daily. For children over 4 years: The usual dose is in the range of 50 to 200 micrograms twice daily.

Flixotide Accuhaler is used to prevent the symptoms of asthma. Remember that the medicine in your Flixotide Accuhaler is taken by inhalation only. Follow the steps carefully:

1. Shake the inhaler well for 15 seconds immediately before each use.
2. Open your Accuhaler, hold the outer case in one hand and put the thumb of your other hand on the thumbgrip. Push your thumb away from you as far as it will go.
3. Hold your accuhaler with the mouthpiece towards you. Slide the from you, as far as it will go - until it clicks.
4. Hold the Accuhaler away from your mouth. Breathe out as far as is comfortable. Remember never breathe into you Accuhaler.
5. Put the mouthpiece to your lips. Breathe in steadily and deeply - through the Accuhaler, not through your noese.
6. Remove the Accuhaler from your mouth and Hold your breath for about 10 seconds.
7. To close your Accuhaler, put your thumb in the thumbgrip, and slide the thumbgrip back towards you, as far as it will go.
8. If you have been instructed to take two inhalations you must close the Accuhaler and repeat stages 1 to 4.

Side Effects:

• Swelling of eyelids, face or lips
• Sore throat or tongue
• Hoarseness or throat irritation
• Skin reactions
• Shortness of breath
• Wheezing

Precautions:

Do not use Flixotide Accuhaler to treat a sudden attack of breathlessness. You will need a different kind of medicine called a 'reliever' which your physician will have told you to take.
